Who we are and a look back at our history Temple Beth Or has been an active Reform congregation since 1912. Temple Beth Or, “House of Light,” was founded in 1912 by a group of Jews associated with the Hebrew Sunday School Society of Raleigh who were interested in providing a Reform Jewish education for their children. We have grown from this small handful of individuals who chose to worship in the Reform tradition, to an active congregation of over 500 member families dedicated to the service of our faith and to each other. We moved from our Hillsborough Street location (next to Char-Grill!) to our present location on Creedmoor Road in 1978. The Religious School wing was added in 1984 to meet the needs of our growing school-age population. In 1999, we dedicated our new Education Building and Congregational Hall. This major addition also enabled us to convert our old school rooms into administrative offices and meeting rooms. :: top of page :: Our Staff Temple Beth Or is a very special place.
